Do I need to report assets?
Assets must be reported in your Dutch tax return if their total value exceeds the tax-free threshold (heffingsvrij vermogen).
Fiscal partners can combine their exemptions.
Tax is calculated on net assets (assets minus qualifying debts).
Examples:
-
Below threshold: €50,000 in savings, €0 debts → threshold €57,684 → no need to declare
-
Above threshold: €40,000 savings + €30,000 investments – €5,000 debts = €65,000 → threshold €57,684 → taxable €7,316
Guidance for choosing a service:
-
Assets below €57,684 (€115,368 for families, 2025) → Usually Regular (€149) or Regular Family (€199) filing is sufficient.
-
Assets above the threshold or multiple investments → Choose Regular Incl Assets (€449) or Family Incl Assets (€499) for tax optimization and guaranteed lowest tax.
-
If you have more than 10 asset items, add Assets Top Up (€150).
